$12,350 For a Pair of Adidas?

NEW YORK, United States — To walk into the 3,000-square-foot Stadium Goods store in SoHo is to be confronted by rows and rows of pristine, shrink-wrapped athletic footwear.

Look closely and you might be a little stunned by the price tags.

On a recent afternoon, for instance, a pair of white Nike Jordan 1’s by the fashion designer Virgil Abloh (Off-White, Louis Vuitton) originally priced at $190, was selling for $2,750. (No wonder it was enclosed in a glass case.) Nearby was a rare pair of Adidas PW Human Race NMD TR, designed by the musician Pharrell Williams. Price tag: $12,350.

This is clearly not Foot Locker.

The high-end sneaker market is big business these days, and the three-year-old Stadium Goods, a consignment reseller of rare or limited editions, has established itself as the Tiffany’s for sneakerheads.

China’s live-streaming fashion boom woos Gen Z buyers with growing success

Chinese and global brands are turning to live-streaming internet platforms to expand their reach and generate higher sales in China.

Consumers can comment and shop as they watch the broadcasts.

We are sitting in a small office looking at ourselves on an iPhone screen, being broadcast live across the web to about 4,000 Pawnstar viewers in China. It’s midday and our unannounced, ad hoc show is drawing far fewer viewers than the usual scheduled ones, says Jane Jia, owner and founder of Pawnstar.

Don’t let the shop’s eyebrow-raising name fool you, this is not that kind of live show. Live-streaming platforms have been popular in China since they first appeared about six years ago, but in the last three years, the medium has exploded. Since 2016, this second-hand fashion and accessories store in Shanghai has been selling via live streaming. It’s customers are mostly women living in second-tier cities across China, usually aged between 20 and 35, who shop most after work hours.

Nigeria: African Fashion Week Rises With National Monuments

IMG_2606Africa Fashion Week Nigeria recently added another feather to its cap when it showcased the iconic national monuments-National Theatre and Tinubu Square-both in Lagos Island for its two-day fashion explosion that featured seven designers from different African continents including Cameroon and Zimbabwe. Former first Lady, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola was among the dignitaries at the fashion fiesta.

On Saturday April 1, National Theatre played host to fashionistas, fashion designers and upcoming ones as AFWN introduced a fresh dimension of promoting the culture and old fashion through the use of historic locations in Lagos. As selected models strode the runaway, invited guests were excited by the electrifying and the old school designs.

Amsa Yaro Crapulli, a videographer turned business owner, creates amazing jewelry.
Really, she does.
For her, It began with making beaded earrings, bracelets and necklaces and then continued till it was obvious that Amsa’s creations were no longer business as usual. Gradually precious stones and other uncommon materials were replacing the popular beads she started her trade with. She says,

‘I started making my own beads from paper and fabric. I also started teaching many how to make recyclable art, you know. Using things that are not the usual to make something wearable and worth keeping.’

Nigerian Shoe Brand Keexs, South African Designer Collaborate For Fashion Week

  

The first innovative and social footwear brand in Africa, Keexs and South African based Afrikanswiss (Africa’s premier denim brand) recently collaborated on a new collection for South African Fashion Week 2017.

Showcased at the Hyde Park corner in Johannesburg on the 31st of March; the new Spring/Summer 2017 collection, “Naija man in Soweto” tells the story of a modern merge of cultures, with interesting pieces like the denim ‘fila’ to the denim embroidered ‘buba’, it’s safe to say that there’s no limit to the creativity of African fashion designers. The Growth of Mobile payments can help boost Nigeria’s Fashion Industry 

 
Mobile payments have been on the rise in Nigeria since 2014. By May 2014, the total amount of mobile money transactions stood at 271 billion naira. By 2015, the number was at about 4 billion naira per month, according to Dipo Fatokun, the director of Banking and Payments System Department at CBN, but that is just “scratching the surface”. A lot more is to be expected from the mobile payments market in Nigeria.
One of the companies pushing this cause is fets, a mobile payment solution company. The company has announced its sponsorship of the 2017 Lagos Fashion and Design Week (LFDW). It will be the sole payment processing partner at the event. More on this on VenturesAfrica.com. 

Nigerian Designers Seek Establishment Of Fashion Council

  The Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FADAN) has urged the Federal Government to establish Fashion Council to formulate policies that would boost garment and textile industry in the country.Mrs Funmi Ajila-Ladipo, the National President of FADAN made the call in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recently.

“When established, the council would look into relevant garment policies and put in place policies that would support garment and textile industry in Nigeria.

“Fashion and textile are not entertainment, it is business so we have to attached business to garment; let the Fashion Council and policies be put in place; when I operation, a lot of revenue can be generated to the government. Read the full story on Leadership Newspapers.

African fashion market hits $31bn – Europe

  
Week London/Nigeria Ronke Ademiluyi says that the annual turnover from African fashion in Europe is about $31 billion.

Ademiluyi, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos said that African designers are very creative which made their work to stand out.

“The African fashion industry has according to the Euro monitor is worth $31 billion, annually and it is still growing.

“A lot of big brands like the Swedish IKIA are doing a flagship collection of African furniture and require many African designers to work with them. Read all about it on The Nation.
